Life and Education
Muzaffar Iqbal was born in Pakistan in 1954. After completing his primary and secondary education in Pakistan, he pursued higher education in physics. He successfully obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physics from the University of the Punjab. While pursuing his academic career in physics, he also developed an interest in various disciplines such as philosophy, the history of science, and Islamic thought. This interest marked a significant turning point in his intellectual journey and eventually led him to focus on the relationship between Islam and science.

Career and Affiliations
In the early years of his academic life, Muzaffar Iqbal conducted research in the field of physics. However, he later shifted his focus to the intersection of his interests: the study of Islam and science. To deepen his understanding in this area, he collaborated with various academic and research institutions.

In the late 1990s, Muzaffar Iqbal relocated to Canada, where he realized his vision of establishing a think tank that would address a significant gap in the field of Islam and science. This vision culminated in the establishment of the Center for Islam and Science (CIS) in Canada in 2001. CIS began its operations with the aim of fostering dialogue between Islam and science, conducting research in this field, and enhancing the body of knowledge through publications. Since its inception, Muzaffar Iqbal has served as the President of CIS. In this role, he has spearheaded numerous international conferences, seminars, and workshops, bringing together leading academics and thinkers in the field.

Under his leadership, CIS also launched the Journal of Islamic Sciences (formerly known as Islam & Science), an academic journal that has become an important platform for addressing various issues concerning Islam and science. Iqbal actively participates in the journal’s editorial board and contributes to it with his articles.

Throughout his career, he has served as a visiting professor at various universities, delivering lectures and seminars. His expertise in Islamic thought, philosophy of science, and the relationship between religion and science has earned him international recognition. He has collaborated with academic institutions and think tanks in different countries, aiming to disseminate his work to a wider audience.
